But shouldn't kids go to "ski
school?"
That depends on the child. As with adult
lessons there really isn't any comparison with the fast progress
available with one on one private instruction compared to group lessons.
However if the child makes friends easily and works well in a group environment
then "kids ski school" may be desirable. I encourage parents that
it is far more important that a child enjoys the skiing and mountain
experience than that he or she progresses rapidly in their skiing
skills. If that means enjoying skiing with a large group of kids
their own age in exchange for more focused one on one instruction of
private ski lessons then I support it. The goal is for the child
to develop a lifetime love of the sport. For more information see

Children" at

In children's group ski lessons,
children are grouped by age (3 yr olds, 4-6 yr olds and 7-12 yr olds)
and ability level. Children's group lessons are targeted to have
kids on snow from 10am to 12pm, an hour lunch break then back on snow
from 1pm to 3pm. During peak times such as Christmas week,
President's week and spring break weeks the sheer number of kids
enrolled can be quite large so starting times can be delayed. When
group sizes are large, individual, one on one teaching is not prevalent.
However, the Telluride Ski and Snowboard School's children's group
instructors are masters of meeting kids needs, managing group dynamics
and making the day fun even with large groups of a dozen or more.
