Where will we ski?
After
assessing your physical abilities, skill level, motivation, your
specific goals and current snow and weather conditions I choose runs
that will enable you to learn new skills and movements within your
comfort zone. After mastering those skills and if you are ready I will encourage you
gradually stretch you comfort zone with progressively more challenging
terrain. We will typically repeat this process of learning new
things on the easier
runs then dialing it up a notch to apply those skills on more difficult
runs. This is how we advance our ability. We learn new
movements on the easy stuff then apply it on the hard stuff. I do
have some personal
favorite runs that we will ski if appropriate.
When will we ski?
With
private ski lessons you can schedule your lessons during whatever
hours you wish. All day is 9am to 4pm. Half days are either morning (9am
to 12pm) or afternoon (1pm to 4pm). Under the Telluride Ski School
pricing policy odd hours such as 11am to 2pm are available but
noticeably more expensive than the equivalent 3 hr morning or afternoon half day
lessons. The choice is yours.
I maintain a minimal schedule commitment to the Telluride Ski and
Snowboard School for assigned lessons. My assigned lessons can
usually be reassigned to another instructor if a guest requests me
specifically on those days. I make non-scheduled days available as
skiers need me for ski lessons virtually any day during the season by
advance reservation. Of
course this is subject to open dates. I average about 120 days on snow per year
with this flexible schedule. I also
have a computer and web services business that I work around my guest's schedule
needs during ski season. I spend as many days on snow as possible.
After all, wouldn't you rather be on the slopes than pushing a mouse
any day of the year?
If you would like to discuss ski or snowboard lessons with me
please contact me by phone (888-590-2531) or
email me which I check daily
during ski season. I'd love to hear
from you to talk about your ski and snowboard goals and needs. Information
about
your goals and objectives as well as
your learning style is helpful to me so please check out my related
web pages on my other web site,
www.thesnowpros.com. Then if you would like to
schedule some ski or snowboard lessons we can confirm dates. I can then make
your reservation with the Telluride Ski and Snowboard School for either
morning, afternoon or all day lessons.
What can I expect in my lessons?
To learn something new or to improve your skiing or snowboarding skills
first we will accurately assess your skills, abilities, strengths and
weaknesses. This is not just how you ski or snowboard but also factors
such as your motivation, lifestyle, time available and physical
abilities. During the process we will discuss your objectives and clarify
your goals. One very important part is that those goals must be
attainable and you must be able to visualize yourself skiing or
snowboarding at that level. I believe in setting you up for success.
With realistic goals defined we can then formulate an effective plan
using your learning style that will help you to snowboard or ski the way
you wish. This may include unorthodox movements or diverse equipment such
as snowblades. It is important that I tailor lessons to fit you learning
pace and terrain comfort zone so that learning something new is easy for
you. We learn new movements best on comfortable terrain then step it up
to more challenging terrain when you are ready. I am frequently told that
I am very patient by my more conservative guests. I take that as a great
compliment.
Observation of your skiing or snowboarding movements by a trained eye
is necessary to helping you understand why things happen and how to apply
other techniques. We can video tape your skiing and snowboarding so that
you can see what you are doing and we can look for ways to become better.
